I have this old 2001 calendar filled with reprints of vintage Italian advertising posters (thank you former officemate 'o mine). I'd like to hang them as a big grouping (4 rows of 3) - very tightly aligned - so that it's like one large piece of artwork rather than a bunch of small pieces. They measure 9.5" wide by 13.75" tall, which doesn't fit any standard-sized frame. And I'm not in the custom framing state-of-mind these days.
What I thought would look chic is to mount them in borderless clip frames (shown above) - to give the group flow & continuity as you view them on the wall - and to really showcase the colors. Again, they don't fit a standard frame. In my spazzy zeal to get 'er done, I forgot to leave a perimeter on the prints equal to the size of the entire frame (see below). The yucky wood backing is a no-go.
From here, one option is to add a white/cream paper behind each one (wall is white where they'll be hung). I think black will fade too quickly. Another option is to return these frames, get a smaller size (8"x10") and crop each print to that size - so you just get a snippet or section of each one.
I love the prints in-full, but it's really the "idea" of the vintage prints that I'm tied to more than the whole piece of art. What do you think? Leave uncropped and add white background or crop? Or something else altogether?? I'm all ears!
