You didn't really think I was going to be talking about rocks in the literal sense, did you? Were you thinking I might mention how my son & husband are my personal pillars of strength and how my family provides heaps of unwavering support and incredible happiness that without which Daisy Janie would not be possible? Well, I would love to talk about these things (b/c they're truer than true), but I would rather mention how these really real rocks I keep safeguarded are a metaphor for the figurative rocks in my life.
This assorted collection represents years of memories, miles of hikes, hours of idle chatter, numerous sore muscles and lots of breathtaking views. We've been hiking with Peanutman since he was 2; our excursions in nature - allowing ourselves to take it all in on our weekend hikes and letting everything else in the world go for a time - contribute a big layer to our family's foundation (see how that came around?). Each one was picked-up by my son and spontaneously given to me, with a "Here Momz, I think you'll like this rock." And he's always right. The craggy or smooth surfaces...the depth and breadth of color...the shapes and sizes...the glassine vs. striae appearances...each one has a unique, silent story that now contributes quietly to my family's story. Treasures. All of them.
What seemingly insignicant objects or activities have contributed a vital layer to your family's foundation?
