The snarky part of me completely concurs with the other snarky part of me! Ha. Seriously, I was playing Scrabble with Peanutman today, and I drew that damn Q in the first round.
And I waited and waited and waited for a U.
And I waited and waited and waited for companion letters to make a word.
And I waited and waited and waited for an opening on the board.
And I kid you not when I tell you the word I finally ended up with was 'queue' - aaaah, more waiting!
It hit me like a ton of bricks how much a resolution on Jan. 1st is like that letter Q b/c a big, lofty goal doesn't happen over night...like all the sudden you hit the mark on Jan. 2nd and you cross if off the list. Nope, you are waiting and waiting and waiting for new habits to form, grand ideas to gel, sweet plans to come together, elusive patience to emerge, cosmic stars to align...and they often don't. So you absolve yourself of your resolve and vow to start again next year. Well, I'm all for goal-setting b/c that's just life and business...you have to set goals and you have to wait for things to come together, but pooey on recycling high-falootin' yearly resolutions that leave me feeling incompetent and frustrated. I take stock on too-regular-a-basis to give January 1st all that power. Maybe I'll set goals on a random day in May, and it will feel like drawing a letter S b/c you can just add it somewhere and transform what you already have going!
