How lucky am I to have shared a blistering Sunday afternoon with all these freak shows, running through mud and fire, bear crawling up black diamond ski slopes (aptly named Sasquatch), scaling splintered walls, shimmy-ing through tunnels & under cargo nets and crossing ponds with water moccasins?! Very, very lucky! A lucky mudder effer!
About 30 of us from our gym completed the Tough Mudder challenge this past weekend at Bear Creek Mountain Resort in PA. It was absolutely exhilarating to be surrounded with hard-working, no excuses warriors for 2 hours straight. No matter where you looked, smiles through painful grimaces abounded! The culture of camaraderie created at our gym Corps Fitness is second to none, and it made this event extremely doable in terms of the physical and mental challenges. We started together & finished together - and laughed and carried-on in-between the more challenging moments. Whadda day, whadda day!
This quote from another team's shirt says it all:
"You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have."
*Tough Mudder raised over $200,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project - happy to be a part of such an incredible contribution.
Ten of the total group were husbands & wives - so moving to see them push one another! My DH ran a Tough Mudder & a half to get all of us on flip video at each obstacle, for posterity's sake. We're all trying to figure out how he appeared to be in 2 places at once all damn day. Time-turner? Apparition? Makes for some very funny & moving footage to be sure! Some of the images he grabbed of me show the extremes:
+ ugh: carrying a log up a hill & back down.
+ wheee: running down a big hill.
+ holy crap: heart rate in my throat at the top of a steep mountain.
+ hooray: all done & a free beer from Dogfish!
