Gripped by this song and the singer. 100% full-tilt, full-throttle, all-out gripped. Can't. Stop. Listening. Makes me want to dance with everyone I love all day long. Makes me want to run 10,000 miles non-stop. Gripped.
Driving home from yoga on Friday morning, I flipped to our go-to station out of Philadelphia (radio 104.5 - great streaming audio, btw.) - just in time to hear the first line "happiness hit her like a train on a track..." After some crazy ups & downs last week, by Friday morning, I was feeling very much like I got slammed by the happy train b/c it wasn't a gladness that came nicely - it hit me hard. So I HAD to hear the rest of the song's message and who this amazing, passionate vocalist was! I turned off the engine and sat in my garage til she was done belting it out, then sprinted into the house to google the band and haven't stopped listening to this song since. Stephanie Fizer tweeted that she's had this album on repeat in her art studio for 2 weeks now - you can listen to some of the band's other songs on their official website. (p.s. If you like it, great! If not, tell it to the hand.) HAPPY MONDAY!
"Dog Days Are Over" by Florence + the Machine
Happiness hit her like a train on a track
Coming towards her stuck still no turning back
She hid around corners and she hid under beds
She killed it with kisses and from it she fled
With every bubble she sank with her drink
And washed it away down the kitchen sink
The dog days are over
The dog days are done
The horses are coming
So you better run
Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father
Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your loving, your loving behind
You cant carry it with you if you want to survive
The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can you hear the horses?
'Cause here they come
And i never wanted anything from you
Except everything you had and what was left after that too, oh
Happiness hit her like a bullet in the head
Struck from a great height by someone who should know better than that
The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can you hear the horses?
'Cause here they come
Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father
Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your loving, your loving behind
You cant carry it with you if you want to survive
The dog days are over
The dog days are done
Can you hear the horses?
'Cause here they come
The dog days are over
The dog days are done
The horses are coming
So you better run
