When I set out to design fabric collections for wholesale, there were many driving factors that led me down a particular stylistic path. One of them was applications for the end user: how would the hobby & home sewer most likely use bold, modern organic fabrics, and how should that influence what I design? Quilting was tops on the list, despite my not being immersed, versed and familiar with the art & craft of the modern quilter. Ooooooh, what I was missing!
Over the past year, the landscape of my blog reader and my magazine purchases transformed from mostly design & indie-centric to quilting & sewing-centric. The tug of inspiration of the latter has grown by leaps & bounds, and I feel less like an outsider looking in (if that makes sense). It's 1 part fabric-business-owner-keeping-her-finger-on-the-pulse, and it's about 20 parts holy-crap-these-modern-quilters-and-sewers-are-so-freaking-amazing-that-I-can't-get-enough!!
The 3 quilts featured below are just a few examples of this, and I am kicking my heels up to see how they used Geo Grand ~ the bold, modern organic fabrics I toiled over! Thank you, ladies, for your creativity and willingness to share!
Broken Cogs by Jacquie Gering, Tall Grass Prairie Studi0
+ quilted by Angela Walters, quilting is my therapy
This incredible quilt was created as a project for a book that Jacquie is writing with Katie Pederson of Sew Katie Did. The bad news is the entire chapter where the Broken Cogs quilt would have appeared was cut (drat!). The good news is that Jacquie has hinted that she may be writing a pattern for this fabulous quilt!! I sure hope she can squeeze in some pattern-writing time between all the book-writing time!

Ornamental Organic by Cheryl Arkison, Naptime Quilter
+ Pattern available in Issue 4 of Fat Quarterly
Cheryl won a bundle of Geo Grand fabrics as part of the Blogger's Quilt Festival on Amy's Creative Side. I love how she was inspired by the ogee shape of the Ogee fabric - which is definitely quite reminiscent of an ornament! (I'm getting some serious fabric ideas from her quilt that came from fabric ideas - wonder how many derivations of Ogee we can create!) She also went above & beyond to create a quilt that was 100% organic, from thread to fabric to batting. Was she successful? You'll have to find out by reading about it in the latest issue of Fat Quarterly - another issue packed with spectacular projects!

Geo Grand quilt by Tammy Vasser, A Content Life and Marmalade Fabrics
Tammy's modern quilt is appealing to me b/c of its random simplicity and its singular focal point. I really enjoy how the fabrics stand out on the white ground, too! Nice straight line quilting!!
