Since 2008, Teresa VanHattan-Granath from Green Bag Lady has given away 14,306 fabric grocery bags! As in: FREE. 14,306 of them! She uses donated fabric to create these 'green bags' and simply asks recipients to discontinue using plastic & paper grocery bags in exchange. Her message receives two thumbs-up from me! Highly commendable. I was happy, happy to donate these fabrics in support of her efforts!
I participated in her Green Bag Lady challenge this past December, for which I created this free pattern for a fabric produce bag. One of the most commented and visited posts I've had to date! So glad so many could use it!
I have really come to love taking fabric photos on this old cutting mat! Some folks use weathered wood with peeling paint; others use tarnished metal with patina. In that spirit, this well-worn mat with deep grooves and a rather roughed-up surface is a perfect backdrop for showing off the fresh, modern look of my designs. The fact that it gives instant scale to the fabric and the motifs is a bonus! The light breaking from yonder window to the right has been a savior time and again, too, as long as I plan ahead so we're both in the same place at the same time!
What's your favorite go-to photo backdrop?
