This is the official beginning of the end of my digitally printed fabrics. Read on...

All organic sateen (fat quarters & yards) and all organic canvas (fat quarters & yards) in the Daisy Janie etsy shop are now on clearance at 25% off. These fabrics are professionally printed-on-demand, and they're priced as low as they can possibly go ~ they're just about what I pay the printer! (As you can see, they weren't marked-up very much to begin with.)

I have a lot of greige yardage left of this organic sateen, which means I can print more than 1 yard if needed. Simply send me a note. I will offer these full yards of fabric until 2/28, then I will sell just the unprinted greige to destash the lot. Keep an eye out if you're interested in plain, white organic sateen.

Selling my digitally printed fabrics on etsy provided a tremendous boost for Daisy Janie in many, many ways. While some are quite measurable, like sales, site traffic, treasuries and press opportunities, others are truly incalculable, like the profound connections, dear friends and very precious brand-building. I see the past 3 years on etsy as one of many stepping stones that allowed me to venture into a more beneficial, sustainable & lucrative business model as well as a foothold that afforded me a safe method & environment to test out my design style and gather marketing research data. (Since MR is my background, I am super keen on the data!)

However, more than anything else, the inquiries I received to purchase my fabrics for wholesale were overwhelming. I held onto every. single. one. The pure volume of notes contained in this folder was the true impetus that fueled the Daisy Janie wholesale organic fabrics that I design & sell today. As the list grew, the little voice in my head that jabbered about dreams of wholesale organic fabrics grew to an irrepressible shout, “What the devil are you waiting for? These people want your fabric, and they are willing to purchase lots of it! Figure out how to make it work!” And so I did. Methodically. Authentically. Passionately.

Daisy Janie’s success in 2010 and the promise of much more in 2011 will be demanding in all the best ways. It’s time to move on from those early etsy building blocks that are now unfairly being ignored by their mama – I invite you to take advantage of these prices and last few pieces of these designs. I sincerely don’t know if I’ll ever print them again on fabric. (Awwww. That made me sad for poor Bloomie and Annika and Georgia and Iris and Maxie. The girls and I have had a good run!)

The edge has been sewn rather than stapled for durability & appearance (my personal preference). The sewn edge creates a handy perforation so you can easily tear out sheets as needed.

They're slender enough to slip right into your handbag or clutch ~ perfect for a reminder, list or note to a friend.

...this is what I would probably print: the sketch collection. I know! Where did that playful pink come from, right? Ya got me. Just following instincts I suppose.

I tweeted for input today regarding whether or not I should go forth with one more collection of organic sateen for retail (in my etsy shop) or if should stay more focused on the wholesale side with Geo Grand and the upcoming Shades of Grey. I don't want to confuse buyers regarding my mission or what my brand is all about (printed organic fabric for wholesale), but I would like to use up the 80+ yards of organic sateen I have in stock with my printer.

The organic sateen (and organic canvas) in my etsy shop are both digitally printed at great expense and cannot be wholesaled - which is the whole reason I changed my mode of printing in the first place. It would be unwise to go backward with a new collection of digitally printed fabric at this point. Thanks for letting me talk that through - and if you tweeted me today with your input, thank you!!! Meant a lot to me to get a few different perspectives.

I'm digging the mix of geometrics with simple floral motifs as well as the abundant vs. sparce use of color amongst the group.

From my 2008 Damsel Collection, these are cotton/linen blend fabrics that were professionally printed on-demand. Although I still print some of these designs on organic base goods, most have been discontinued. These mix packs are all that remains of those cotton/linen prints. I have more mix packs & random Damsel pieces to list, but none will be as nicely mixed or comprehensive of the original collection as these 4 bundles.

As I create these random listings in my etsy shop and my destash shop, I feel a little lighter each week. When you've been thinking about doing something for sooooooooo long (like 2 years), and you finally make some headway, it's so liberating. Then, in the style of the old V-8 commercials, I clonk myself in the head, "Why did I wait so long?" Even better, I'm actually enjoying the process of the weekly random listings - looking through my studio storage each week to see what I can pull together and shooting & editing the pics. (Never thought I'd say that about taking pictures after all the hair-pulling sessions I've had, but I may have finally found the right time of day in the right spot in my house with the right camera setting - nobody move!)

These quotes are part of a sweet & empowering letter my husband gave to me in 2004, when my work as a decorative painter was part of an emotionally & physically exhausting Designers' Showcase. The ideas represent what he learned by observing my work process during those long, draining weeks. I've had the letter posted on my bulletin board ever since - a visible reminder to focus on what allows my work to  'flourish.' Maybe they will prompt others to flourish, too!
