New Leaf bee block blog hop packs.

A little sneak peek of a special project

I've invited 14 talented quilters to take part in a New Leaf Bee Block Blog Hop, and they've all agreed! I sent out a slew of sunshine-y packs of fabrics! A blog hop sharing the blocks will take place starting in mid-January. Can't wait to see what these fabrics turn into with some creative stitching! Oh me, oh my. The cherry blossoms are lousy with themselves this year, like crazy lousy!

Seeing them first thing as I step out our back door makes up for the abundant dregs* of dead stuff everywhere else. Winter is surely here, but this tree lets me live in my wanna-be Springtime fantasyland a little bit each day.

I've posted about this tree a few times over the years. When I looked back on a couple of them, I was surprised that last year's blooms arrived much earlier. I posted in November about this autumnal cherry tree, and there were still orange leaves all over it! Pretty then, pretty now.

And how perfect is this Rodin quote? I really do feel like nature talks to me! You too?

2013 Black & White, Color-It-Yourself Calendar.

Like a good poltergeist, it's baaaa-aaaaaack!

After a 2-year hiatus, the Daisy Janie black & white, color-it-yourself calendar is again in our midst! I've been fortunate to have very devoted & vocal fans of my calendar design, and I found I was no match for their gentle urgings this year to re-create the calendar (read: they pleaded and I can't say no). Gotta love the love sometimes - it's motivating!

book feature | Crafty Girls Talk.

Crafty Girls Talk is a recently released book by Jennifer Forest. Jennifer describes in the introduction a familiar scene in a craft class, where you meet crafty women "with a love of creating and an eagerness to learn." And the stories inevitably come b/c women do love to talk! Yes, it's true. Jennifer loves to listen to what makes each person's story unique and what ignites their passion. She says she discovers time and time again that behind every crafty girl is a fascinating story worth hearing, and she's cleverly used that concept for her book. The chapters are brimming with interesting conversations with 20 (chatty) crafty girls.

I was thrilled to be a part of Jennifer's conversation and exploration about crafty girls! I found it super interesting and enlightening to recognize common threads as well as that which makes each of us unique snowflakes. You'll find my story in Chapter 15. Wow! A whole chapter to myself - I never would've guessed I had so much to say! wink.

Scrap Packs in the shop!

Perscrappity: A random household exclamation that originally meant Crap! but has evolved into usages where Eureka! or Hot Damn! or Yeeha! might be appropriate. It's really quite versatile.

Today, maybe a "Holy Perscrappity!" fits the bill for the glorious numbers of scrap packs I bundled up and put in the Daisy Janie retail shop. I've been wanting to destash the leftover cuts of these fabrics for a long time! It really came to a head when I started pulling out scraps to make the Lancaster Diamond quilt blocks, and I realized just how many places I had stashed, stuck, shoved and hidden them. All in the name of organizing, right? You know the game.

Details about the packs:

• Each one weighs about 4oz., usually a bit more. - 1/4 lb of fabric.
• Each one is about 6/10 of yard total, usually a bit more.
• A mix of fabrics from Geo Grand, Shades of Grey and Tilly.
